broken routing tables

Apparently the routing tables don't work properly. I have a wireless access point in my house, but no internet. Whenever I connect to the wifi my internet barfs because the phone is trying to use the wifi as a connection method. It fails to load pages, and for some reason does not failover to it's own connection. Why?

I just recently installed Dolphin browser which is apparently capable of broadcasting a page over wifi. It's not clear how other devices are intended to locate the broadcast page, but what I want to do is use this method to view webpages on my computer via my phone without it technically being tethering. If I can't load the pages, I can't very well broadcast them. If I can't broacast them, I can't figure out how to access them with my desktop. Also, i'd like to use ssh and sftp on my local network to interface with my computers. If using my wifi b

I don't think you'll be able to do what you want in this way. The closest I can think to this is to remote view the phone with adb.

Your phone turns off it's data connection when you connect to WiFi. Otherwise, you would have two radios going and would consume a lot of battery and generate a lot of heat. It doesn't switch over because your phone still sees the WiFi.

Also, Straight Talks tethering policy potentially allows them to deactivate your device. Even if you're not using a traditional tethering method.
