Help broken screen stripped screw

My nexus 5 (3-4 weeks old) wanted to see what the grass was like but missed and gave the sidewalk a hug about a 2.5 foot plunge only thing holding my screen together is the protector (the irony here is that I was walking to go get my case I ordered)



And I tried getting the screws off and ended up stripping one advice on how to remove it don't wanna speed $430 again for a new phone when I already paid $160 for a new screen
(I stripped the one on the right side)
 
You might not be out of luck if you can find a screwdriver that fits better. You can strip the screwhead by using the wrong size screwdriver, but it will leave enough material to grab with an appropriate screwdriver. Check how much it grabs by using light pressure and rotating with light torque. If it just spins, you're in a tough situation. If it grabs, there's hope. Be sure to turn slowly, deliberately, with a good amount of downward force to keep it from stripping further. In any case, once it's removed, you want to find a replacement screw
 
Could black electronical tape help or maybe super glue just random thoughts I've had
 
I'd try a slightly larger screwdriver, and the electrical tape. you can get cheap sets of the small screwdrivers at most 99 cent stores.
 
I'm not sure how helpful the electrical tape will be but stay away from the super glue. It will only make things worse

At this point I just want the screw off and its on the speaker module which isn't that bad I mean the super glue won't damage it I'm pretty sure

Edit: what about putting the screw driver in the screw and put in some melted metal to mold it to the head of the screw driver would that work?
 
I know your not a tool man and don't know or seen one of the stripped screw removal from your local sears or harbor freight tool stores . or what you can do is get a flat head screw driver that fits that screw and jam it in and turn counter clockwise to remove .
 
Stick to trying a larger/better fitting driver and some moderate pressure while turning first!

I've seen worse screw heads than that one come out ok.

Yea I don't use tools often why because I'm just a teenager I will try all these suggestions before welding
 
The screw is already damaged, trying more screw drivers will only make things worse. What you can do is get a wire cutter(similar to a pliers but smaller with a sharp tip) You can hold the screw on its side and try rotating it using the wire cutter. Works for me always. Or if you could get an allan-key with a hollow that fits on the screw(similar to those used in opening car parts)
 
These cross-head screws - Posidrive, Philips - are the work of the devil. I've stripped many, although not in my phone!. As far as I'm aware, they are actually designed to cam out to prevent over-tightening.

Slotted screws are better, but they too can result in the screwdriver slipping out.

I don't know why hex screws are not used universally (like Allen keys). If the correct size of key or driver is used, they are secure and don't cam out.

Anyway, have you considered using something like a Dremel drill to cut a slot in the screw head? Very carefully, of course. Then use the correct sized flat-head screwdriver to persuade the screw to come out.
 
What I did was I took a soldering iron and a paperclip and some solder then I bent the paperclip out straight and I put some solder on the end of it and then I used the soldering iron to heat up the solder on top of the screw and then it will harden and then you can remove the screw by twisting it out

Finally I'm happy to report I fixed my screen I also put on a carbon fiber skin to absorb anymore falls my phone takes yes it's not the best protection but it's better than nothing I also ordered the black nexus 5 front because the sides aren't glossy plastic Thanks for all the help guys
