broken usb port / root

nah its my cousin, he had his for a while, and wanted to change it, but most things need root and i noticed that his usb port doesnt work so i was asking and ill give those a try thanks :D
 
Well framaroot then get mobile odin and you can flash the recovery kernel for what ever ROM he has. with that he can flash a custom ROM still. Though do be careful. If the USB port is physically broken,you can't do a disaster download mode recovery. Is the port physically broken or can he charge with it? It may just need a new cord...
 
its physically broken, he has a spare battery and an external charger so it works for him but getting the root on the phone was the tricky part
 
Okay then I would not recommend flashing a custom ROM unless he is well experienced at it for this phone. With recovery tied to the kernel on this device, if a kernel without recovery is flashed that is incompatible with the ROM the phone has, the phone would end up useless. In that state you would need the usb port to recover.
