Hi Folks,

Welcome to AF! grat's on the new eXperia Ray. I'm sure the wonderful people in the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray - Android Forums forum will have lots of useful info posted and should be able to help answer any questions you might have. Can a cell phone get a virus? I won't say it's impossible but it's not likely you will catch a virus. I'd recommend researching any apps you're interested in and make sure you're aware of what you're installing. Also Android Applications - Android Forums might have some leads on antivirus software apps if you decide you want to install one. Thanks for taking the time to stop in and say hi. Welcome again to AF:)

A stupid question can it get infected with a virus …:p:p

Welcome to the forums.

There are no stupid questions... it's what turns new users in to experienced users! :)

Android is a linux based OS and, as such, will not get a Virus.

Malwear can be a problem, but if you look at the permissions an app is asking for when you go to install it, you should be able to avoid any issues... for example, why would a simple game be asking to see your private details... if ever you're not sure, you can always look at the market rating or ask other users on here.

Hope this helps!

Enjoy your stay on AF!! :D

EDIT - I just found the folowing from a similar thread:

Just to chime in, AV is completely, 100% not needed on Android. None of the AV software on Android has ever successfully caught any of the malware (different to a virus) out there.
