Brown screen of death in recovery mode

Yeah, brown screen of death, who know have thought? (shortened version of question bellow)

Anyways, I have a samsung galaxy s4 mini and recently I did something stupid. I installed and changed a few settings in rom manager that changed the recovery mode to CWM 3 (something) even though its not compatible with my phone. I deleted it off my phone and my play store is all kinds of screwy right now so downloading it again isn't an option as of now.

I want to be able to get back into the factory installed recovery menu without this CWM recovery getting in the way. How would I completely factory reset the phone (not factory reseting through the settings menu and such as that did nothing) so that I can get back to the factory recover menu?

TL;DR version : installed incompatible CWM recovery for a Samsung galaxy S4 Mini. Now the recovery boots into a brown, pixelated mess. Solution?

You'll have to read up on a guide to using Odin pc software then find the stock firmware (factory OS) for your exact phone model and carrier version from sammobile.com and use Odin to "flash" it onto your phone. I think it will wipe all your data btw.
Good luck mate

I know that odin for the pc needs "Odin mode" but (what I think I didn't make clear) was that my phone does boot into all the normal stuff. But what it won't do is boot into the recovery (and what I presume to be odin) mode. Alternatives?

So with phone off, holding in Power, Home and volume DOWN won't boot you into download (odin) mode?
If not then we have a lot more problems....

It just brings up a brown screen with various pixels. It normally freezes till I mash volume up and the power key. Then it just reboots

Ouch then I think it's pretty much hard bricked, you could try a USB Jig from eBay for a few pounds to hopefully force you into download mode but if you have spare cash I'd maybe invest in a better phone :thumbsupdroid:
(are you definitely using volume DOWN btw?)

I've look it up a little just now and found a few. Say if I bought one (and it worked, obviously) what I would (in theory) do from that point?

A Jig. You plug it into the USB and it should (hopefully) force the phone into download mode. From there you can plug it into a FC and flash the factory firmware, fixing the phone :thumbsupdroid:
