Browser won't work with global proxy

Lurker
Hi there, I was wondering if maybe someone can help me figure this out.

I am using a Gingerbread phone.

Basically I am using ConnectBot to establish a connection to a server, everything works fine and it works in the background. I then use ProxyDroid to active a global proxy. I used the instructions from this site under "Instructions for Android".

silenceisdefeat.com/wiki/index.php/SSH_Tunneling

The problem is any browser I try to use when the global proxy is active has no connection and I can't connect to any site. Every instruction I found pretty much assumes that anytime you initiate the global proxy the browsers should work automatically, but I don't find this to be the case. I've tried Opera, Firefox, Boar, Dolphin.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

You could try the SSHtunnel app. It has the global proxy setting & I can use all my browsers fine, even on 3g (defo works as pages load & a visit to whatismyip.com shows my home ip).

Wow, thanks for the tip. I ended up figuring it out from there.

You actually don't need connect bot. You just need SSHtunnel app and need to fill out your server info and log in and check "Use socks proxy". The other thing that needs to be done is this (NOTE: I did this on Firefox so I don't know about other browsers)

-in Firefox address bar type in about:config
-in the search window that pops up type in "proxy"
-scroll down to "network.proxy.socks" and in the field under type in "true"
-scroll down and find "network.proxy.socks_port" and type in 22

Everything good from there.

Thanks a lot!
