Root Build.prop settings

Most if not all the build.prop tweaks are myths that have been debunked and known not to improve your phones performance. Basically, they don't work. It's why I didn't include them in my rom.

What mainly determines how a phone performs is the cpu/gpu/ram & kernel along with the software like ics or jb. Google has done a great job with these 2 OS's, they have vast improvements over the previous OS's that allows them to manage themselves very well (i.e. ram amongst other things).

As end users we can do a few things to improve performance...
---De-bloat
---Don't use 3rd party task killer (android manages tasks very well)
---Block ads so they don't bog your phone & browsing down
---Don't fill your phones memory to the last few megs
---Don't install too many crap apps
---Use common sense

The Spirit is a great example of a phone that performs great out of the box. With the few things I mentioned it only gets better.

I know all the build.prop tweaks, but I will not post them and help you guys mess up your phones.

Understandable. We can turn this thread for a reminder not to do build.prop editing if you don't know what your doing, then. LoL

I agree with you. Excellent advice! And prob 90% of the build.prop tweaks are useless.

I looked into it, because the file is there for a reason and what I found out, is that a lot of them don't work in the version of Android that the lines were originally added in, but will in a future version. Of course, some never come to fruition.

But some do work, like the following that I'll post below.

I cannot say that I can confirm that every line does something, but at least some of them do, because it's been confirmed by multiple users (before/after testing) and I know for a fact what I always get (+/- 10%) for Ping, D/L & U/L speeds and the diff was amazing!

Ping: 240-260 ms ---> 40-50 ms
D/L: 10-12 Mbps ---> 20-24 Mbps
U/L: 10-12 Mbps ---> 24-28 Mbps

That was in Mobile Data. My WiFi could not give me any more than I had, because I was already at what my ISP gives me (15/5) anyway. But the tweaks must also affect WiFi, because my Ping dropped just as drastically as it did with my Mobile Data.

That reminds me; Why the heck does Android use 1472 (tweak changes it to 1482), instead of 1500 for the MTU setting?!

The "tweaks" are as follows (edit existing lines to match, or add if they don't exist yet):

# system props for the data modules

ro.use_data_netmgrd=true
persist.data_netmgrd_nint=8
persist.data_netmgrd_mtu=1482 (82, not 72!)
persist.cust.tel.eons=1
ro.ril.gprsclass=10
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=8
ro.ril.hsupa.category=6
ro.ril.hsxpa=1
ro.ril.set.mtu1472=1

I use the "Build.Prop Tweaker" app in Google Play.

As I'm sure you all know, you must be Rooted.

Use at your own risk! Back up first!

Enjoy! :-)
