Here is how to "check for updates" even if you burned your 24 waiting period.
Settings> Turn off Automatic time/date sync> then set date> set the date to a future date and viola, you can check again, and again, and again as long as you use a different future date every time. Also when you are done make sure you change it back. You dont want to be waking up at 6am on sat. thinking you need to go to work!
