Buy before June 28 or wait?

The price increase on the Maxx pissed me off. I should have gotten it last weekend.

Now, I am trying to figure out if 2 more years of the grandfathered plan is worth spending the extra $100 right now. Or should I wait until prices drop, new models come out, etc. but end up with the metered plan.

What do you think? Anyone else in the same boat?

I look at your decision as..

Pay an extra hundred dollars now, or pay an extra __?? monthly with the tiered data plan. I think in the long run the extra hundred now might save you some money. But i'm not sure the prices of the tiered plan.

I know the lowest one is $30 for 2GB. If the OP can stay under that 2GB he'll save money overall but any higher plan, or more than two overage charges and your losing money.

yep.... same boat... not happy.

but i don't want to give up my unlimited data so i'll be spending the extra $100.

So if a Verizon customer has already the unlimited data plan, after June 28 will the unlimited plan be eliminated and be changed to a tiered plan?

Look at how much data you are using. If you never come close to the 2GB, wait and save money on the phone purchase.

Any data plan savings will only be for 2 years or so, depending on when you upgrade next. Otherwise, you can always pay full price for your next phone, or buy used/refurbished off ebay and maintain your unlimited plan.

Right now, we still have options for keeping the unlimited plan. I bet Verizon will eventually get rid of it.

Is Verizon still offering the 4GB for $30/mo when upgrading or buying a new LTE phone? That's what they gave me in early June. I got the $100 Maxx discount, a $50 discount for renewing, and had a $25 Verizon coupon. So I got the Maxx for $124 with the 4GB for $30/mo guaranteed for 2 years.

How did you get the coupon??
Or where??

I'm in the exact same boat, and now I'm kicking myself for waiting. Now I have to decide if I get the Maxx for $229 (I think that's the cheapest I've found it online with an existing contract) or the Rezound for like $79 or whatever it is on VZW's site right now.

The rezound is a really good phone a couple of my friends have it and they only have good things to say about it.

This is killing me! I'm on the fence between the S3 and the Maxx so I went up with my father this past weekend to check out the Maxx in person and talked my father into using his upgrade and getting the DRMaxx in place of his old Fascinate. He paid $199 + $30 upgrade fee.... That upgrade fee is a crock if steaming crap.... But anyways, I was thinking after reading all the battery issues for the Galaxy S3 that I'll just suck it up and go with the sure thing.... Until I saw this $299 + $30 today.

Damn me! I really screwed the pooch. Do I eat the $330, or will the S3 have decent battery life? I'm miserable with my Galaxy Nexus battery life being that I am a very hard user. I am an engineer and our computers are very locked down, so in an 8 hour day I'm on the phone around 3 hours, and we get poor 3G reception at work so my phone works hard to get a signal. I've tested my phone with CyanogenMod and go from 5 am unplug at 100% to 10:30 am power off. I'm a forum, facebook and G+ addict, so even away from work I suck this dry in a few hours on 4G.

I really like the idea of a massive battery, but I also want the biggest screen I can buy. The razor would already be with me if it had a 4.8" or larger screen, the idea of downgrading to a little 4.3" kills me!

I'm also on unlimited data for 3 of our four smart phones, me, my son and my daughter. My wife has 4 gig for the price of 2.

We average 16.5 gig for the group over the last quarter according to VZW, I don't want to give up this unlimited data.

Why oh why can't I get a product that will solve all of my needs!? And why is VZW going to kill my unlimited data if I try to wait. This all sucks.

Yet I see you have the Maxx, right? Have you seen theirs enough to have an opinion of how it compares to the Maxx? If it wasn't for the battery, I don't think I'd even be debating this one bit. Any idea how call quality/signal strength compares?

Has anyone checked ebay for a new Droid Razr Maxx with 2 yr contract? I too was pi$$ed when I didn't buy the DRM last week for $199. But searching around, I found on ebay if you go to the Best Buy Mobile Solutions they have it for $199. Is there any reason not to go this route? I've always previously bought my phones/upgraded at the actual VZW store.

What do you guys think? I'm ready to hit the button, but want to make sure i'm not making a mistake by going through Best Buy Mobile Solutions.

Thanks!

I transferred an upgrade from one of my dumb phones to my line for the Maxx. Since it was the last new every two it gave me $50off.
But when I ordered it everything was good until I got to the final screen and I had no data listed. Just a Hotspot. I have talked to several reps.. They assure me my unlimited will be there when the phone is activated.... We will see..

i still can't beleive they jacked the price back up, and how can they charge $299 for the maxx and the GS3 be only $199, that don't make any sense to charge more for an older phone

They have the pistols and are completely corporate minded. Make you best choice and move forward. Maybe do something to make more money. If your contract is up you can go month to month and keep unlimited. I wanted the maxx so I paid the high price. Now my wife can upgrade when she feels like it and still have unlimited. :)

I've always went to the VZW corporate store also. I'm spooked at the idea of buying from other than Mama Verizon for fear that I would not get the same service and treatment by vzw if I don't do my business with them.

Is there any down side noticed by those of you that have went outside of vzw for your phones?

I put a post asking a similiar question regarding upgrading via non vzw.

I too looked over the weekend but did not know it was a 'fathers day' only sale.

However, amazon has this upgrade for 199 still.

I went to the site, but when you get to ordering, it does not have unlimited text. It then has some confusing verbiage about your current plan, but can't figure it out.

Has anyone gone this route.

I just called Verizon @866-822-9445 about an offer I got on June 9th for razr for $50 and they didn't see that offer, but gave me the razr maxx for free, waived the upgrade and free shipping, keeps my unlimited data. Only catch is that I have to give them my DINC2 in exchange. SWEET!
