So I'm unhappy with my current phone, the Huawei U8100 for a number of reasons. After getting frustrated with how slow it can be at times and how it occasionally jams up and reboots (as well as me being unhappy with a few other things) I decided that I want to see if I can get something better. The main issues I have with the U8100 are poor speed, small screen size (and not high resolution), poor touch sensitivity + it reboots on me too often.

I need something that works in Canada on WIND Mobile's Advanced Wireless Service AWS (1700/2100MHz).

1) The Motorola XT720

Anyways so after checking out things, I found the Motorola XT720 to be pretty appealing. It can be overclocked to 1GHz (or higher), has nice visual screen, large screen as well, and great touch sensitivity. As well, it has a very high quality camera/video (which is useful) and I really like the look of it. Additionally, the price isn't too expensive for a more high end phone, it's only going to cost slightly more than $300 for new. The one drawback of the XT720 is that Motorola has ditched it and isn't getting any updates past 2.1. The good people at XDA have hired a developer to port 2.2 from the motoroi to the XT720 and that's looking good though. (But it definitely won't go past 2.2)

2) The Nexus S

This has the advantage of getting future updates which is appealing and it can be overclocked much higher. But it's going to be likely significantly more expensive +hard to get my hands on in Canada (I'm not even 100% sure it works with WIND right now) and I also don't really love the actual look of the phone. It also lacks the high quality camera/video of the XT720.

3) The Sony Ericsson X10

I haven't actually checked into this that much. It's slightly more costly than the XT720. Believe it works with WIND, I like the timescape thing kinda (though it looks laggy in demos). +Has good camera. Most importantly it suffers from the same update problems as the XT720 (haven't checked around XDA for this yet though). I've heard some good things and I've heard some bad things about this phone.

4) Waiting

There are some phones coming out in the future that are appealing to me. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is one of them. They look to have improved a lot of the flaws (in slowness) with Timescape, have very high quality camer/video. Very nice display... etc... Up to date with 2.3. And I also think that they're likely to update since they made Timescape so it's easier to update and also because everyone was so pissed at them with the X10. The first price listing I've seen for this is about $650 which is a very hefty sum for a phone (I'm fine with spending some money on a fancy toy but I do have a limit). That price could be wrong though, I don't know. Plus I'm not sure I want to wait until April or whenever this phone comes out as I'm unhappy with my current. There are some other upcoming phones that look appealing as well.

Anyways, I need some suggestions. One of these phones? Other? Wait a bit with cheapie phone until something better comes out? I'm leaning towards the XT720 with the one worry that I may regret locking myself into a phone with only 2.2 at best (I want 2.2 for a bunch of reasons more than other updates, but who knows what other updates may bring). Is there something better that will work with WIND Mobile's bands?

Any helps is appreciated.

Will also check that out, thanks :).

I think the main question I need answered here, is how important is it to be updated?

I'm leaning towards the XT720 (though I haven't properly checked out these new recommendations) for it's combination of features I want and relatively inexpensive price. The only thing holding me back is it will likely never go beyond froyo. How bad is that? When I was stuck on 2.1 (well, still am technically speaking) the only thing I really wanted to be updated for was for 2.2. flash. 2.3 didn't really add much that I really wanted that badly. I worry that versions like 2.4/2.5 will give me the capabilities to equip death rays to my phone and that I wouldn't have that if I was still stuck on 2.2. (okay, not really death rays, more like plain cool features). So, how bad is it really to be stuck on 2.2 for a while?

If you can wait till the end of Spring then wait. New phones should be introduced just before Summer and you don't want to know you could have purchased a kick ass phone. lol

Yeah, but I'm not sure I can wait so long. My phone has been pretty frustrating recently (lags/ reboots/ other issues).
