Buying my first Android phone: which one?

jimih

Lurker
Currently have: Nokia 5530

Typical day: 1-2.5h music/podcasts, a couple of phone calls, a couple of sms messages, a little bit of Twitter, a little bit of web browsing.

Battery life expectations: I can live with charging my phone every night, but not more.

Display size: 3.7, maybe 4, but not 4.3 - that's a little bit too big for my taste.

I am curently looking into these posibilities:
  • HTC Desire (~

Desire S (new, compact, energy efficient, HTC support, Sense UI, etc.) or Galaxy S (good screen, popularity, enough power and storage).
Desire is already old and its age is visible.
Nexus S is a clone of Galaxy S and is not worth the extra

That puts Desire S and Galaxy S in the lead :)
I'll try to get an opportunity to hold both Desire (similar enough to Desire S, I assume) and Galaxy S in my hands today/tomorrow.
Feel free to suggest any other phones I should consider.

I would go with either the Desire S or the Nexus S. My top choice would be the Nexus S. If you are a software developer, the question is already answered way ahead of you --- go with the Nexus S, no matter what others say. You need a clean Android to do your testing.

I always choose a carrier first - fair price, good coverage for your area, etc. - before deciding on a phone.

My choice was to buy the phone at full price. Although initially a larger investment ($110 vs $29) , my savings amount in the plans is more than $1000 for two years.
