Buying phones from somewhere other than Verizon.

Can someone give me the basic advantages and/or disadvantages for buying from some place like Best Buy or Amazon?

I'm thinking about getting my upgrade from Amazon, since my wife wants and S3 and they have a big time special on them right now. Are there any hassles I should know about. Specifically, I have a 20% corporate discount on my monthly bill, will this transfer over to whatever contract comes out of Amazon? Also, does the smartphone insurance that you get with Verizon transfer too or do you have to get something new.

If you are just doing a straight upgrade, not too much that you have to worry about. You will have an extra ETF if you cancel in the first 6 months, but after that, it's no different. And the price can be right.
