DISCLAIMER: I have NO financial interest in this product; nor am I providing any affiliate link to get anything out of it. Nope - I'm simply a tech geek, early adopter and backer of this campaign... and I think it's a great concept for smartglasses with none of the creepy camera/spy stuff!

SOLOS SMARTGLASSES

I showed this to the technologically-impaired Darling Bride, and even SHE wants a set of these!

:D

Besides no camera, these don't have a HUD either.

How much do they differ or offer over something like Bose Wearables "AR Audio" glasses, that are already available to buy now. https://www.bose.com/en_us/products/frames.html
And I have seen these available in a retail store in London. Didn't try them out though. As smart-glasses is not something really need myself.

I think a lot of the difference is that Bose is talking up the sound quality (basically headphones without the headphones) and the Bose AR features - which are almost exclusively for iPhones at the moment*. What Solos offers isn't so much an AR experience, as an assistant that helps me not have to constantly interact with my phone. Like my smartwatch, it's an extension of my phone that allows me to get things done, hands-free. It's also nice to have it monitoring my posture, as I sit at my desk quite a bit. Yes, the battery is good for about 3-4 hours... but how long could it possibly take to recharge them? In the end, Bose has one set of features and Solos has another - which is great for us consumers. Choice is good

:)

* - I had Bose headphones that were AR-enabled, and sent them back... because there are no AR applications for Android. Why pay for something I don't have and can't use?

Why pay for something I don't have and can't use?
Now that could start a very interesting but totally off-topic discussion. One thing any smartphone has is a lot of stuff that I don't use, can't use or won't use, sometimes that I'd very much prefer wasn't there. Some of this adds to the hardware cost, all of it adds to the development cost.

(Not limited to smartphones by any means.)

Solos is now offering a chance to order additional pairs at a discount - backers can modify our pledges to reflect the new total (with shipping) and get up to three extra pairs, far below retail:

SOLOS UPDATE 7

What do these glasses do?

Did you watch the video? As I mentioned in Post #3 above, it's essentially an extension of my phone so I can get more done, hands-free. The "smart" elements are in the temples of the glasses - so you can swap out the frames/lenses to suit your mood and occasion. Solos has released the Beta preview of their app - so they're confident this is going to market with or without the campaign. While it doesn't replace Google assistant, it has some AI functions that Google doesn't.

PS - it took me three views to find the little error or "flaw" in the video :D

I suppose they could have put it into earbuds, but then it would lose the open ear design that keeps one aware of their surroundings. It's a new concept, great for some and not for others. Freedom of choice is a beautiful thing

:)

Seems to me that this technology could be incorporated into an open bone conduction headset, rather than some funky glasses. That can give you audio and full verbal interaction, and you can still be fully aware of your surroundings.

I've never worn glasses myself until last year, because my 56 year old eyes are having difficulty with close-up, so i use off-the-shelf reading glasses sometimes in the evening.

@mikedt quit shooting the messenger! Good grief - if you don't want the things, don't back them! LOL I've worn glasses since I was a teenager... now I'm 57, got cataract surgery and no longer require glasses for regular use (only reading and monitor use)... and I have Rx glasses for that! Solos just gives me the ability to do things hands-free that I couldn't easily do otherwise.. other than make my face for radio look a little better because I think I look awful without glasses...

Well I might have actually been interested in backing it, if they offered the technology other formats such as in a bone conduction headset, similar to what Aftershokz makes, rather than just offering it in glasses. I'm certainly not interested in the Bose Bluetooth glasses either.

Presumably Solos do offer an option to have your own prescription lenses fitted if required.

I've actually got Aftershokz Aeropex, that I like and use regularly, but of course those just play audio, phone calls, and only interact with whatever smart-assistant tech the phone has, that I don't bother with..

I'm sure I could get Rx lenses in the frames... but probably won't. Since I would likely use them while driving, the blue-light and sunglass lenses will be great. IF Solos is funded and launched, I'm sure the company will continue to revise and innovate...

With just HOURS left, Solos hit their goal - these will be reality!

When, no one knows: like another device I backed and have long awaited, it's on hold as the coronavirus outbreak has most manufacturing facilities in China shut down. This epidemic is wreaking havoc with their economy, as production has come to a virtual standstill.

Yeh, China, Inc. is currently closed for business.

And it does affect me as well.

Good luck!
