Help Calculator bug? (AT&T version) - Resolved

I've got the AT&T version of the S3, and it's stock, unrooted, with the most recent updates (version 4.1.1).

This morning I noticed a bug with the stock calculator that has not happened before. If I type five digits, the fifth digit is placed right after the first digit. Example: If type the digits 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 (in that order), the display will show

instead of "12,345".

What appears to be happening is that when I type the fourth digit, the calcutor inserts a comma separator. When it inserts the separator, the cursor moves in front (to the left) of the separator, so that when I type the fifth digit, it gets placed right before (to the left of) the separator instead of at the end (right) of the number.

I can confirm this by correcting the cursor placement and typing additional numbers. The cursor is moved when another comma separator is placed.

Has anyone else seen this? As noted, at one point the calculator worked fine.

I've tried the following in order to resolve, but none of them have worked.
  1. Clear the calculator app's cache and data,
  2. Reboot the phone, and
  3. Battery pull

Edit: Resolved, see post below.

It does it on 4.1.2 as well as (international version) so I'd assume it's android wide where that particular calculator app is present.

Good find, you should try giving Google feedback ;)

It is? Then why does the bug only show up now? I've used the calculator previously with no signs of the bug. I can't remember exactly how long ago the calculator worked fine, so it's possible that the bug was introduced in the 4.1.1 update.

Thanks for the reply,
Brian

I hardly ever use it. It could have happened in any update / patch after 4.0.4 I guess.

no issues here Rogers(Canada) 4.1.1

Changing the font (display settings) fixes this bug, but it changes the font system wide.

Found the culprit: SwiftKey Flow beta.

SwiftKey Flow beta is currently my default keyboard. If I switch to any other keyboard (including SwiftKey 3), the calculator works fine.

Interesting, I hadn't tried that. But the keyboard setting works for me too. Thanks for all of the replies,
