Help Calendar and back up question

Ok have had 2 lg smart phones before this so am new to Samsung. My calendar icon shows 31 every day and doesn't display the correct day on the outside of the icon. I can click to open it and the right day is highlighted. Is this normal as on my LG phones the date on the outside of the icon changed every day so I didn't have to open the calendar icon to check the date.

Also I know about backing up to cloud but on my LG phones there was an icon that said back up and it would back up the whole phone settings and all to a file on my micro card so if the phone had to be wiped you just reloaded the file and didn't have to customize the phone all over again as all your settings, wallpaper and stuff would be just how you set it up. I can't find anything that I can do this on the Samsung, anyone know if it's possible? Mary

How come LG can make a calendar that does that and samsung can't? Seems kind of silly to me to have a calendar icon show 31 every day. I could do away with the air view and a few other things and give me that instead. It seems that widget displays the correct date but doesn't actually open your calendar icon if I am reading right.

Ok so it seems I would probably have to pay for the pro version of my back up to do all I want, don't care as long as it does like the LG phones did so I can restore settings and such if I have to wipe the phone out. Thanks for the helpful info. I was going to get the LG G2 and decided I would try something different this time. I like the phone but just a few little things I was used to having on my LG I don't have. Mary

It is not that Samsung "can't" - they likely chose not to, because they think that users don't need it or that there are other widgets available if folks need it. That's the good thing about Android though - if one manufacturer chooses not to provide something, there is very likely an option available for you from a different developer on the play store. And it will work just fine.

I agree with you though - it is silly for them to not show the actual date on the shortcut! Doh! It hasn't bothered me as much because I have a calendar widget that shows me my next appointments, along with today's date.

Try that widget out if you like - smooth calendar. It is free, and it can resized to a 1x1 widget to only show you the month/date, and tapping on it will open your calendar (you can set the app you want to open), and it is free.

Thanks, smooth calendar looks like it's what I need. I guess I was just spoiled on LG with not having to add anything for the calendar to do that and for the system back ups. Mary

Just installed smooth calendar and oh my that is exactly what I needed, even shows my next 3 appointments on the home screen, thanks a bunch for that. Mary

Thanks for the update. Glad it is working for you. It is a good reliable app. The only thing that I don't like about it is the inability to save/export the app settings (in case I have to wipe my phone or if the widget gets deleted somehow). Other than that, it has worked pretty well for me.

I hear ya about the app settings. I looked at my back up pro but after reading the reviews it seems with android 4.4 it lost the ability to back up to the SD card and the developer has not fixed it. I just would like to find something like LG has on their phones that backs up every thing in one shot on a file to the SD card then when you wipe the phone out just reload that file and settings and all are restored.
