Calendar help

Lurker
Hi folks. I am looking for some assistance with Android calendars.

This is my current set up. At work, I have my calendar on Exchange. Whenever I make appointments for work or anything which might affect my work (i.e. holdays, days off etc), I create an appointment in my Outlook calendar as usual. But I want to be able to access my calendar on the go so I ALSO send a calendar invite to my gmail account. This obviously means that when I am out of the office, I have a good idea what is in my diary because both my smartphone and tablet sync with my gmail calendar. What is also useful is that I can make appointments in my gmail calendar and send an invite to my work calendar and the same appointment appears in my Outlook calendar. My colleagues have access to my calendar and can see what appointments I have.

I also use my gmail calendar for personal appointments and reminders which do not need to feature on my work calendar.

The system works well but my problem is that I am concerned about Google's continued snooping and admitted scanning of emails so I want to stop using my gmail account to sync my calendar. I have access to my own pop/imap email provider and I would like to use this in preference to Gmail to sync my calendar. The problem seems to be that when I send appointments to my phone from Outlook to a non-gmail account, there is simply an ICS file attachment in the email rather than an entry in my calendar. Also, there is no way to send an appointment from my phone/tablet using an account other than gmail.

Does anyone know of anyway that this can be achieved. I know I can set up my phone and tablet to access my Exchange server but I would rather keep my work and home life separate. I don't mind paying for software but obviously free is always preferable! My phone runs Android 4.1.2 and my tablet runs 4.1.1. Any help and ideas would be appreciated.
