Call blocker operation

In the last few days I've started to get calls and voice mail from a scam caller. A check on a reporting website confirms the same two numbers are affecting other Virgin Mobile customers. Using Phone Settings/Block Numbers, I've blocked them but I've still had a notification of a missed call and a voice mail from the blocked numbers since then. There's no audible notification of the call's arrival, which I'm assuming is due to the blocking function, but it's disturbing to see the logs.

The symbol for the voice mail stays on the top line menu of the phone and I can't get rid of it. Earlier, I'd been able to clear it by restarting the phone but what happens now is that when I restart the phone I get a fresh voicemail notification.

Is this the normal operation with blocked numbers or is it something I should be taking up with Virgin Mobile?

Thanks,

Ian

i would use youmail as your call blocker. hands down the best. i used to get 5-10 spam calls a day. even if i try and block them, the spam bots will just use another number to spoof. now with youmail, i get 1 or 2 a week that slips past youmail.....but to me that's is such an improvement!!!!!

now as far as blocked numbers leaving voicemail and notifications? that might either a phone thing or your carrier. i tried hiya as a call blocker. it was good, but it still left me with notifications and the caller was allowed to leave a voicemail......it is definitely not youmail!!!!!

Hi ocnbrze,

Thanks for that. I'll have look at youcall. Meanwhile, I looked on the Vigin Media website and got a link to a UK facility called Telephone Preference Service, which I'd forgotten about but used inn the past on my landline before service company blocking became common. It looked good till I read that it won't/can't stop messages.

I'm going to try to make contact with VM by phone but hope youcall will crack it. I'll report back.

Thanks again,

Ian

Well, I installed YouCall but can't see how it can help. There's a facility in Privacy/Settings to look at blocked calls but no way of adding any numbers as far as I can see. SMS and MMS are off by default but I can't make YouCall default. Restarted the phone and got the expected new voicemail notification.

Update - contacted Virgin Mobile. They can't stop the scam caller leaving voicemail other than by disabling that function, which I've asked them to do. Sorted. Thread can be closed.

Thanks,

Ian

Thanks for putting me straight. I don't know how that happened but can agree with you about YouCall. As I've now dealt with it by killing off voicemail, I'll let things stay as they are and avoid having to have yet another app. Thanks anyway,

Ian
