call blocking?

this robocall keeps phoning me sometimes three times a week--it's one of them 'don't hang up, this is not a sales call...' types. there is no human nor any way to reach one. it's a robocall and just loops over and over. i think it's some collection agency for someone who had the number before me, but i waited months hoping it would just give up after getting no answer over time but nope. just called me again today. i am getting sick of this. is there some app or setting that can ban this phone number so it doesn't set my phone off again? with no human at the other end it's impossible to tell them 'you got the wrong number'. the number is 502-267-7522

There are no apps that do this as far as I know, but if you are through Verizon then I know you can temporarily block up to 5 numbers for 90 days, after which you simply have to re enter the number. Here's the link to the page where you enter the info, you'll have to sign in to your account there if so. And if you are through a different carrier I'm sure they have a similar option on their website.

^ That link is for Verizon call blocking and you have to be signed in to Verizon.com

unfortunately the service is AT&T. and when i did have Verizon years ago they told me they weren't 'allowed' to. i could either block all incoming or all outgoing. at the time the phone (a Samsung flip-phone) did have a feature to block anyone except people in your contacts--which worked. i can ignore and reject calls and even silence the ringtone for certain numbers in Android, but i cannot avoid the annoying number showing up multiple times as a missed call. i think it's someone trying to call me and it's that bloody 502-267-7522 over and over. sometimes it phones multiple times a day.

Well if no one can find an app for the call blocking feature, then I suggest you contact AT&T support via Email and ask them if they have a feature for blocking individual phone numbers, whether temporarily or permanent.

Get all the programmers together. The Ftc has put up a reward to block these idiots.

FTC Targets Robocalls With $50,000 Bounty

actually i heard that collections agencies who phone cell phones with robocalls and don't identify their company name are violating the TCPA, and can be liable for $1500 per call. i thought of recording every instance and making a lawsuit but i doubt i can cash in that easily....they have many people TO'd on many number lookup forums, and apparently continue their practice, which means they are either very rich, or no one can touch 'em.

the number belongs to GLA Collections, Inc, in Louisville, Kentucky. that is what the number lookup gives me.

The robocall audio:

"Please, don't hang up. this is not a sales call. we are trying to reach 'John Doe'. if you not John Doe press 1 for details" [loops]"

pressing one just got yet another automated system up. i even tried 9, # and 0, but never got a human.

Robodialers don't care. I think the link made an error and it was the FCC.

On landlines - the SIT tones seem to work. Cell can't install. No good call blocking, either. They spoof numbers. According to lookups - that damn political survey crap has shown up from 7 states. Someone did a piece (news program)on the pollsters and they admitted not giving up until they got an answer.

I've got a general ringtone for unknowns. If I hear it, I look at the number and usually don't answer since I know no one in that area code. I look up the number. They can't leave a VM since I told TMO to turn it off. I never checked it anyway. I like the call log better.

I just saw an article where the credit card companies might start going after scammers. Especially Heather and Rachel, not to mention the you-have-a-virus group.

You could also look into Mobile Guard... it will block the call indefinitely. Also, there will be a log of every time the number contacts you that you can email yourself for proof. Hope you can fix this annoying problem!
