Call Display & Voicemail

Hey, I have to pay $4 for call display & $4 for voicemail.

Is there an app where I can get free call display & or voicemail so I can cancel these features with my service provider?

Thanks

PS: I live in Canada if that makes any difference.

I would think that these things are controlled by the network rather than the handset.

Android phones can display called ID if presented to the phone, but if the network doesn't send that during call setup I don't see how any app can do anything.

Likewise I know that my voicemail lives in my network's servers. I could imagine an app that could provide a voicemail service when you miss a call (by answering the call and recording a message on your SD card), but no app could possibly provide voicemail when the phone is off or out of coverage.

Also had the same question before. Found a workaround for the voicemail, but not for id caller.
For voicemail, I redirect my unanswer calls to a free phone number which offer a voicemail. I use freephoneline.ca but many others exist, depending of your location. You can access your message via a phone number or it can be send to your email. If you have 3G, it will be directly on your phone.
For id caller, all apps needs to be connected to 3G, if you want to cancel your subscription. Unfortunately, at the same time, the personnalised rings are not working now, since the phone can't know who is calling. I regret this, maybe I will eventually decide to pay for it, even if I found it so expensive...
