Call Location Restricted Numbers

Hi, all,

Is there a way to call a 1(866) that is restricted to a province? I am no longer living in Ontario and am trying to use a counselling service in BC.
I have a local Ontario number and have tried using Skype with an Ontario IP through VPN. Any suggestions would be appreciate. I imagine it is possible somehow.

Cheers!

sorry, but i live here in the States and i'm not really sure what you mean by restricted to a province? do you have long distance calling or something like that? have you tried other voip services?

Okay, it would be comparable if a toll-free number was only available in the State of California, and you are trying to call it from within State of Utah. Does that make sense? I have only tried Skype: Are there any others you might suggest? I assume it is determining location based on cell towers.

Wow, that sounds annoying, but now it makes more sense. o_O

Can you find a number within the province that has call forwarding? I'm not sure that would work, but it could be worth a shot.

I don't think it's cell tower locations. This 1(866) I believe is a toll free number, where the party you're calling pays for the call, and they're restricting it to city area codes within their province or state. It's basically a collect call or reversed charges. Because the don't want to be clobbered with any long distance charges. So you probably need Skype In and Out, which can give you a real phone number with a city area code within that province or state, like Ontario. Spoofing your IP address with a VPN won't work either for this.

There's also Vonage and Magic Jack you could possibly try as well. Provided they can give you a number with an area code within Ontario.

This area restriction might even be a tax thing, like if they're only funded by tax payers in Ontario, they don't want to be providing a counselling service for the whole of North America.

Hi,
I have a local Ontario number, but have the same issue. Hence, why I thought it was a cell tower because I have a local number.
Cheers.
