Help Call quality disappointing

I found what I posted...8kbs is a "lesser" codec than 12.2kbs. Even with EVRC-B's 13kbs, you get a slight bump in audio, but packet loss becomes an issue. What is it that I'm missing, aside from the fact that my Motorola Q's sound quality on AT&T was better than my Motorola Droid on Verizon? This from a VoIP engineer.

I don't know anything about codecs and evrc, but what I do know is how to google "cdma vs gsm call quality" and all I see are articles about cdma call quality being superior to gsm.

While its awesome that you can effectively use google search, it still doesn't address the OP's issue with call quality, as it relates to audio. An 8kbit call just doesn't have enough information to sound better than a 12.2kbit call. Some of the articles on your google results state GSM has "better sounding" calls.

However other QoS related issues, in my experience, have surfaced with the CDMA carriers I've had for an extended time, which include Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T. To the point where I have full signal while on a call, turn my head, and then hear static on the line because my signal drops with a CDMA(TDMA) carrier. But this of course is dependent on one's distance from a tower or the tower's saturation...and there's always the handset's drivers playing a large part in sound quality as well.

FWIW, EVRC is a standard by which codecs (which address audio compression) are managed on a CDMA network.

Did any of your google searches turn up the fact that some GSM implementations are a variant of CDMA?
 
It's nice you can throw around technical jargon to make your case, but the fact is that cdma in general has better call quality than gsm. Whatever your little charts and specs tell you about codecs and packet loss sound great in theory, but this is the real world where cdma has better overall quality. First two pages of search results show one out of 20 that suggest gsm is better. What don't you understand here, mr. voip expert?
 
New software update has fixed the poor call quality on my device; however, i am still having issues with text messages arriving with the wrong name. For example, I received a sms with holiday wishes from Jim W. Unfortunately, the message was from another colleague. Correct phone number but random name. This is a serious problem and potential database breach.

Does anyone believe this is a software conflict or internal problem / bug?

The same way when my laptop has been on for a long time, it can start acting screwy, that seems to be the case with the wrong names showing up in my text messages. Sometimes I run the task killer, and then go to text messages and everything is fine, sometimes I restart my phone and then everything is fine. It's still annoying and could lead to some, let's say, awkward situations if I text the wrong person because of it though...
 
The first call I received was awful. So much background noise. I came in perfectly clear on my friend's Samsung Fascinate. The second call I got from my roommate's Droid was pretty clear and I sounded clear; what I expected. The area my friend on the first call is in has shoddy coverage sometimes, so I hope that's all it was. I'll keep playing with it.
 
I am changing from my beloved BB8330 becasue she just can't be updated anymore-no new software. Very apprehensive about the Droid Pro that will arrive this week....

Anythiing else you can add that will help me make the switch?
