Call quality

How does everyone like the call quality on their Maxx? I just upgraded and I am having a lot of trouble hearing people. they sound distorted and really muffled. I actually exchanged for a 2nd phone and am still having the same issue. People I am talking to sound really muffled and really low end distorting. Are there any tips and tricks to make the call quality better? Only things I have tried so far are the disabling sound effects and disabling voice privacy. the phone itself is an awesome smart phone, fast, great display. just wish I was happy with it actually being a phone. Thanks in advance.

Boy no, call quality on my Maxx is the best I've ever had in a cell phone. I would say almost as good as a land line. I never changed any settings from how it was shipped. Is it possible you're in a spotty coverage area? Have you tried it in different locations?

different locations strong, average, low signal. even on a network extender. every call sounds muffled and/or distorted to me. It love the phone until I make a call. I am hesitant to make or answer a call because I know I am going to have trouble understanding what the person on the other end is saying.

I know this may sound counter intuitive, but have you tried turning the volume down a little? I know the Maxx volume is LOUD. It's possible you're overdriving the speaker?

yes, have tried that as well. volume at the moment is two steps down from full and I have had it as low as 50%. doesn't seem to effect quality at all.

I'm sorry, I'm out of ideas. I just checked my settings and I have privacy mode checked. Anyone else able to chime in here with something else?

i just now discovered something that may help me out big time. I am coming from a bionic which i simply love. still sounds great bust just a little too slow now with jelly bean and it struggles with all the newer apps. to hear perfectly on the bionic i held the phone with the top of the phone resting against the top of my ear which aligned the speaker perfect with my ear. i was doing the same on the maxx which i believe was aligning the speaker too high and muffling out the sound. i lowered the position slightly and it seemed to make a world of difference. i have only made a couple calls since , but i think this may work. still would love suggestions if anyone has any. thanks for your input thus far.

definitely an improvement. i am now going to put the audio effects and voice privacy back to stock settings since everyone i have talked to or read about says it sounds the best with 100% stock settings. thanks a bunch for your help

The speaker opening is very small and very directional.

Call someone who can work with you a little and as you talk to that person move the phone around (very small changes) your ear. I bet you will find one position where it is great. Use that position in future calls.

which i have just been doing actually. i called a few people that i knew i was especially having trouble with. it was holding the phone too high and it the speaker was pushing against the top of me ear and not pointed right into my ear (hole?..lol) it definitely has significantly improved it.

Don't know.

I wear in ear hearing aids and the microphones are on the surface. The Droid Maxx speaker needs to be positioned pretty close to one of them.

It takes a little practice to find the write position. Then it will become second-nature and you will stop thinking about it.

I have just noticed something else. I always have used my right ear (and right hand I guess because I am naturally right handed). I was writing something down while on a call and switched to my left ear. It was noticeably louder and clearer. I can hear just fine out of my right ear, but I guess it is slightly less sensitive and maybe slightly less hearing in that ear. although i do believe my bionic was clearer and louder, i think between the re positioning on my ear and using my left ear, it is now clear and loud enough to be acceptable.
