call sound quality with m8? uk o2

hi guys,

had an important call today and the sound from the speaker for the call was awful! :(
this was the worst one so far, but ive had a couple of not so good ones - i did notice when speaking to a friend who has m8 on another network that the sound wasnt the best

anyone else finding similar?

cheers
dan

btw: im on o2 in uk

I have had excellent sound quality. I am on Sprint in the US. There are many factors that can affect sound quality including the Cell tower connection you or the other party has, the compression used by your carrier, the other parties phone, the environment you or they are in (ambient noise/wind), or of course your phone.

You said that you had no problems speaking with another person on an M8 on another carrier. While with only a few calls it is impossible to figure out where the issue is my money ould be on the other persons phone or their enviroment

hi - thanks for the reply - yes i agree that there could be many reasons for the poor sound - just seems that since the m8 it has been worse - actually the sound between the two m8s wasnt great - wasnt terrible - but had echo and delay etc
cheers
dan

Echo and delay you say? :) Are you using a case on your phone? Echo can be caused by a blocked microphone (there are 2 on the phone) - One behind the speaker grill and another on the top back of the device. Make sure neither is blocked.

hi - thanks for info .....interesting - im using the supplied gel case from htc - youd think they would have thought of that? :/ ...do you think it is that then that is messing with my sound ? cheers

Speaking from personal experience w/the M7 call quality & HTC directly:

Return the unit, before the window of opportunity disappears.

Call quality is a hard item to prove/disprove. I went 'round & 'round for months w/ Customer Care & the repair center closest to my area & nothing was ever done.

This isn't a slam on HTC,as I'm giving them a 2nd chance w/the M8 as of tomorrow,but,I don't wish what I went through w/countless hrs. on the phone/on-line w/HTC on anyone.

This goes for any type of defect wihtin the 1st 14-30 days (depending upon laws governing such in your area).

Take it back & get another one.

hi
thanks - good advice - what sort of sound issues did you have with yours?
cheers

Mine was BLUETOOTH phone call quality. Otherwise,it was OK.

Calls were extremely distorted/over-amplified on both ends w/BLUETOOTH.

Speakerphone calls were actually clearest,w/normal calls being serviceable, but, not great.

Again,I advise anyone, regardless of mfg,to save yourself the headaches & take it back before exchange time expires....

@HTC_UK another poor call :-( this was with a friend who also has m8.. he said he could hear me ok, but he sounded under water :-\

At this point I have to go with Kolio on this. Do an exchange, rule out the phone as the issue before it's too late. If the issue persists i'm going to have to say it may be a carrier issue.

I still think it may be a carrier issue... Only because when I travel to Germany (last time I had my M7) and I dropped in a SIM for 02 I was not impressed with my call quality. I changed over to Telekom and didn't have any issues.

Unfortunately I will not be able to test the M8 because I am still in the 90 day carrier lock and I am leaving in 3 weeks to go back over to Europe. I will still have my M7 with me over there since its unlocked.

I may bite the bullet for testing purposes and roam on 02 and Telekom to see if I have and difference in call quality as a test with the M8

Thanks for the reply.. Just did a factory reset as HTC say to try that.. Fingers crossed :-D

just had another inbound call - from landline - not too bad - better i think - not brilliant though - but probably up to my s3 standard

I'm very interesting in call quality of M8, i want to buy one, but i confused about two points 1-st - how loud it sound ? 2-nd - how clear / crisp the sound is ?
In some reviews over the net they say it sound pretty good and loud but i stil not shure if its true, especially after reading post like this one...
I currently have Galaxy S2 and it sound too quite for me, i wish it be much louder, very annoying...
So i will appreciate if somebody here can say what they think about call quality of HTC One M8, i also interested how it compare to other flagship phones, like iphone 5s, galaxy s5, xperia z2
Thanks for any help !

hi there.
i find volume is ok, but my first m8 was very poor for call quality.. i had to swap it... current one is much better.

At first I thought my sound quality with the M8 was terrible. It always sounded distant and I couldn't get the volume loud enough.

It turns out that I wasn't holding the ear speaker directly against my ear. Coming from a smaller phone (iPhone4s) I had to adjust the way I hold this much larger phone.

It was an adjustment at first but now it sounds much better. That being said I don't like the way that the phone feels being held up to my ear. That's more of a large phone issue then an M8 specific problem.

... but now, when you hold it in right way - dose it sound better than iphone 4 or worst ? does it really loud or still quite for you ?

It's plenty loud now, sometimes too loud.

As far as quality vs the iPhone I think they're about the same. I was fine with the iPhone sound quality so I think this is a good thing.

hi
my old s3 was slightly better i think..
i got caught out with call volume at first on m8 because i was using audio manager profiles and the stock profile had very low in call sound! :-D

yes i use audio manager app to control my volume levels for device so i can have custom preset levels.
it was the apps default profile that had a very low in call volume i has missed.. so changing that fixed my problem.
...but i hear others have different call volume issues.. maybe relating to positioning of the speaker
