Help Call Volume too high [Desire HD]

Android Enthusiast
Just got a Desire HD and flashed it with Leedroid 3.3.

On some calls the in-call volume is ridiculously loud - have to hold the phone away from my ear to use the handset. I've set the in-call volume to the lowest setting too.

This doesn't seem to happen with all calls but it doesn't seem to be related to the other caller's handset either as the same person has called me twice with one call being too high, and the other normal.

I'm going to test with another ROM but I just wondered if anyone else had found this issue ?

Possibly, but it would have to be from the callers side as I've received calls in the same spot and one has been too loud and the other fine :s

Very confusing.

It could very well be the other persons handset even if the same person called you from the same spot. It could be their microphone has a faulty connection meaning that when the contacts are strained you get a "normal" volume call and if their mic. is connecting properly your getting a "loud" call. Lee does up the sound profile slightly but as mentioned not to such an excess as you'd need to hold the phone away. I've had around 1500 download from my mirror for the latest build on the LeeDrOiD thread on xda and there have been 1956 replies to the thread non of which highlight this issue. The only thing I can think of causing the problem is a rogue app thats meddling with the sound profile.

If you can't get to the bottom of it I suggest doing a full wipe using the zip contained in the download pack if taken from my thread here and doing a fresh install. I suggest this so as to try and replicate the issue thus enabling a decent report to be filed on the bug tracker here: My View - LeeDrOiD Bug Tracker

I also suggest if restoring all your apps with Titanium backup you remove all items from the batch restore with red lettering and only restore apps and green lettered settings. Anything else will conflict with the freshly installed system apps.

Thanks for the help, it's much appreciated.
The 'loud' calls have come from more than one caller so I'm not too sure if it's a caller handset issue at this point.
I had a check of the thread and couldn't see anyone else reporting it as you say - but it's such an intermittent issue I suspect many people wouldn't flag it up necessarily and would just accept it as part of the phone maybe ? - it could have well been there from stock as I flashed it as soon as I got it a couple of weeks ago.
Thanks again and I'll do some more testing with a fresh install.

Good Luck and keep us informed in the mean time I'll see if I can't get it to happen on my phone.

Just got to be careful of who I ring because I could get false positives with having a couple of bunkermouths for friends ;)

:D

I've only had it on in-bound calls so far - just dropped a new rom on there with a full wipe so will see how it goes.

Ok so I've dropped a SenSi 4.0 rom on there and had a few calls and all's been fine so far - few more days of testing and I'll try wiping my LeeDROID install and see how that fairs ;).

The call volume being too loud on the DHD has never been a problem, quite the opposite.

Are you sure you are not accidentally turning the loudspeaker on?

When it first happened I thought it might be that but no, I can still select the loud speaker and there is a definite change to the rear speaker when I do.

Tested another rom for a few days and the issue didn't re-appear so I switched back to Leedroid 3.3.3 and had another 'loud' call.

Going to try a previous older kernel and then a previous build of Leedroid (really want to keep with Leedroid if I can).

If that doesn't work then I'll jump ship, it would be a shame though as I'm loving the rom, great battery and very smooth.

Also I've not ever changed a RIL on either my normal Desire or this new Desire HD - could that be an issue ?

If you wanna stick with LeeDrOiD and are going to use a previous build use 3.2.1 ROM :D Its the smoothest thing since slice bread and is raved about by many on the main XDA thread. If you want to keep the fly in animations of 3.3.3 just flash them seperately. :D

That is the very one I have cue'd up :D

Some digging around on the web has a possible workaround to try too, when the volume is too high turn vol up by 1 or 2 and then turn it down again.

Will give that a try.

I've also set an event within tasker to automatically set the vol to 1 on an incoming call, but I've not activated that yet as I would rather get to the bottom of the problem than just mask it ;)
