Calls over WIFI?

I'm thinking about switching to minutes with my phone, would like to have an unlimited talk and text option while I'm home, I heard about an app that uses your wifi to make/receive calls, is this true?

Now, will this allow for texting? Also, I want to go (boost mobile) to unlimited to so many minutes per month, is this possible?

and looking at this, free calls? No ads? This will be perfect, I just want to port my # over

I'll throw in another recommendation for Talkatone and Google Voice. You can send/receive texts through the Talkatone app (although I actually prefer the GV app for texting). It does have little banner ads in the app but you can pay to have them removed.

You can port your number to Google Voice but it will cost you $20 but I do think it worth it for the benefits you gain.

Finally I don't know who you are thinking of moving to but if haven't looked at them already I do recommend checking out Ting. Their pricing model is awesome, my wife and I cut our phone bill from $90/mo to about $55/mo and now with Talkatone I think we can go lower. If you go with them the links in my sig will save you $25 dollars to do so (and of course get me a ref bonus). Also another big bonus to Ting is they have the best customer service I've dealt with.

GrooVe IP with Google Voice (you only need an account, not the actual app) will allow placing and receiving calls over wifi, AWA texting. I've been using it for years, and customer support is outstanding.

Apparently Mr Lucky has a lot more luck with Groove IP than I did. When I was using (and I even bought the pro version) I could hear just find but the people who called (or I called) couldn't understand me (choppy to the point of incoherence). Still it seems as luck of a draw thing - so its free, might as well give it a try.

I never used the free version, and I never had a problem. Everyone tells me it sounds like a landline. However, I will say that it requires a better signal than the public network. On AT&T, I can get clear, drop-free calling with one bar; with GrooVe IP, it takes 3 bars to have the same confidence level.

The really good thing is the responsiveness of the developer. He is quick to respond to emails, and constantly updates the app to make it plug-n-play with newer devices. I had to fiddle with the settings a lot on my old Samsung Infuse to get good, clear performance. With my Galaxy S4 and wifi-only Nexus 7 though, I was able to just install it without any customization - it just works.

Can I take my current phone Boost Mobile and use it on this? I don't want a monthly bill, just something I can use over wifi as stated below. I'm paying $42.00 a month for something I don't use. I don't want to get a new phone, it's not even 6 months old.

i use talkatone, have for years. no issues with wifi calls or texting.

heard good things about ting, but i thought it was limited to sprint phones???

in november i think i'm going to pull the trigger on a moto x for $299 no contract and $10/month unlimited calls and texts. no data though at that price.
