Camera app crashes

Why does the Camera app that came with my phone running android 2.3 always crash? What causes this?

I have used other photo apps on my phone which work without problems e.g. the Lomo one but unfortunately I can't seem to send any of the photos I take as picture messages that are taken with these other apps they just wont send.

The standard camera app the phone came with at least does allow me to send picture messages the 1 in a 100 times I can get it working

Any ideas anyone? Or is there another paid app I can just buy that is better than the one that came with my phone and will have all the functionality inc zoom and allow me to send pictures messages?

No idea why? What's your device, it might be a common problem.

Have you tried clearing cache/data?

Settings - > Applications - > Manage - > All

Try turning off auto screen brightness....it causes problems on some cameras

I have a X2 and it does the same thing.
I end up having to reboot to get the camera functional.

I have tried turning off screen auto brightness and also rebooting but it still crashes.

If I buy a camera app with zoom feature will this solve the issue or will I still have this problem with new paid app as well?

I was hoping it was just the included camera app that was the problem?
