Help Camera EXIF DateTimeOriginal Missing

fillem

Lurker
On my old Galaxy S2 running 4.0.3 pictures taken with the camera include the DateTimeOriginal EXIF field which means that when they are edited (and the DateTime field is, correctly, updated) it is still possible to know when the photo was taken.
On my Galaxy S3 the DateTimeOriginal field isn't present. This means if I crop the photo using PicSay Pro and then transfer it to my PC or upload to EverNote then it has lost the time that the photo was taken. Both the phone and Google+ seem to rely on the GPS timestamp if it's present so I'd not picked this up until I transferred photos to my PC.
Is this specific to 4.0.4, the Galaxy S3 or just my phone?!

I have the same problem, and after investigation, I found that Google+'s Instant Upload is causing the issue. All the exif data is filled in when you take the shot, but when it is uploaded via Instant Upload, it inserts a GoogleUploaded comment in the photo which strips all the ExifData. All I'm left with is Make and Model and GPS. Turn it off and use Dropbox until someone fixes it.

Well spotted! I've disabled instant upload and confirmed using EXIF Viewer that all the data is in fact there.

I've reported it via the "Send feedback" option in the g+ app on my phone. It's a shame as I liked the Instant Upload option but this bug is a show stopper for me.

By the way, how did you identify that instant upload was the culprit?

I got suspicious when I found that GoogleUploaded comment in the exif when I viewed it with exif viewer.
