Still taking some getting used to for me but here's a cool HDR shot I did today. Post some cool shots you've taken with yours!

hmm, the body of the car gets a little grainy and noisy towards the bottom of the picture. Hopefully more people post some pictures. The camera is one the most important features on a phone for me. Having the N4 take good pictures is really important and is a big deal.

What your opinion of the camera and the photos it takes? Are they acceptable at least?

At this moment in my life a camera on a phone is pretty important to me, important enough to make me skip a phone that has just about everything except a good camera, which honestly there's been a lot of those in the past.

Some companies like HTC, Nokia, Samsung, and Apple really take cameras serious these days, some don't! Well it looks like LG didn't take the Nexus as serious as say they did with the Sprint Varient of the Optimis G. In a nutshell, the Nexus 4's camera is I'd say a generation behind what's available on the market today! Is it better then Galaxy Nexus? I'd say yes, but barely! You have to be in really really good light to take some decent pics, otherwise the dreaded fuzz is definitely apparent on shots. Which stinks, I wish Google and LG made a little bit of a bigger push towards putting a shooter that would rival say the iphone 5 or even better the lean mean HTC DNA. The camera is defiantly not a strong point of the Nexus 4 IMO.

However price is a factor here as well, they most likely skimped on the shooter to keep the price of the phone as low as possible.

Before we get all down on this, are we sure it's the hardware and not the app? I'm not saying it is, just think more testing is necessary.

A lot of the artifacts come from the image compression and not the raw capture. If that is handled by software, maybe a different camera will yield a better image.

Would anyone with the Nexus be willing to compare some 3rd party camera apps with the stock camera for image quality? I still don't have my Nexus unfortunately. The dreaded backorder list.

I'd like to see this, as well as a comparison shot with a Galaxy S3

Likewise, I'd love to see a comparison against an S3. I had to sell mine and dunno whether to get another S3 (or Note2) or get the Nexus 4. I use the camera a lot and my go between phone is terrible, the 5mp cam on the Note 10.1 is better than the Lumia 800s :|.

I've been troubleshooting a play store problem, but I will be happy to do a comparison between the stock app and Vignette. Any other apps you'd like me to look at while testing?

No contest, GS3 has pretty much the Best shooter on an Android phone!

Coming from Nokia Lumia 920 and Samsung Galaxy SII, I had quite high expectations on the camera. The LG Nexus 4 left me a bit disappointed. The features of the software is great but the results are not. Living in a sunny place, I'm especially disappointed in pics taken in bright daylight. They pics come out too dark.

I did a comparison taking pics with the native camera app as well as Vignette and HDR Camera+. Unfortunately, I'm a new member and can't post any links or images here. :-(

My conclusion from the shots I took, is that there is not much difference between the native app and Vignette, which makes me think that it's the hardware that is not up to par.

However, the pics improved when I used the HDR Camera+ app. Too bad it can only be used on static objects though.

If you prioritize the camera and don't care about leaving Android, you should get a Nokia Lumia 920.

I have come to a similar conclusion. The camera is average and not improved by other apps. BTW, welcome to Android Forums. You can post links and images now. :)

I think I will resort to always use the HDR function in the Nexus 4 native camera app. The HDR is not as strong as in the HDR Camera+ app but it's way faster.

If anyone has tips or tricks to improve Nexus 4 photography I'm all open ears. ;-)

The Nokia 920 has an awesome camera, however I just can't bring myself to like Windows 8...

I liked the old windows mobile os's it just didn't work very well.I had a lot of windows pocket pc's in the day,But I would never touch the new os.

Here are some test shots. They were all shot at maximum resolution and resized to 1200 x 900 px. Inset detail is raw resolution.

I'm the opposite. I hated the old WM but like the new WP8. I was close to keeping the Lumia 920 but went back to Android because I'm heavily dependent on the Gmail app. The Nexus 4 is the first stock Android I have and after using it I feel there is no way in hell I'm going back to TouchWiz or SenseUI. Jelly Bean rocks!

I like your neighborhood. I also love the pics. If you want a better pic than that then buy yourself a professional camera!

Those pics are decent, not great, but decent!

Here's the problem, there are phones out there that just take amazing pics... And they're by no means professional cameras...

1- Nokia 920
2- iPhone 5
3- Galaxy S3/ HTC DNA

Those are 4 phones on the market right now that absolutely demolish the N4!

So I think the problem people are having and the reason they're disappointed is because the technology is available to put a real quality shooter on board, and I like others truly believe LG is capable of it.

However Nexus branded devices have never been known for they're cameras, and at the price point they're offered at, some sacrifices had to be made!

Exactly. If LG put in the development to include the best of every shred of technology into the N4 it would be a $700 phone, not a $300 one.

The Nexus paradigm is that they excel at being capable not being capable of excellence.
