Camera preview does not open gallery

I replaced the default gallery with 'Fossify Gallery app' (current version 1.2.1)
I set the default gallery to 'Fossify Gallery' (Settings/Apps/Manage apps/(3 dots)/Other settings/Default apps/)
When I take a photo with the camera app and click on the thumbnail, I would expect it to open the photo in the gallery that is set as the default, but it does not! It tries to open the 'native' gallery app - the one that came with the phone pre-installed?! (It can not open it as I stripped the native app of all it's permissions)
I tried other Gallery apps and the result is the same, so the issue is not with 'Fossify Gallery'
Strangely I can open the Camera app from within the 'Fossify Gallery'??! but not the other way around!?
I haven't tried to install other 'Camera apps' as the native one takes decent photos and I'm not sure that other camera apps would be able to utilize all the 'Hardware'
Looks like the native gallery is 'hard coded' in the camera app? Any suggestions

yep the gallery app and the camera app are system apps. they are designed to function with one another. you will have to play around with the other camera app s to find out what works for you. for me on my z fold 6, i like samsung's camera app. and i use google photos. i do not really use the gallery.

i like google photos because i do not worry about backing my photos ever. it does it for me. in fact i can take a picture and hop on my compute, sync up my photos and i have them right there on my pc without having to hook up my phone to it.

I was afraid it would be something like that! so the only way would be to 'edit' the camera app to remove the hard link to the native gallery app? something I would not know how to do even if the phone was rooted (it's not)
I may give the third party camera apps a trial, but from what I have read, they cannot use all the cameras together like the native app does and other limitations....
As for 'Google Photos' I do not want to use google apps as I do not have (nor do I want) a google account... the only google app I use is 'Maps' where possible, I try to use FOSS alternative apps, hence I replaced most apps (phone, contacts, sms, calendar, file manager, gallery, music) with Fossify replacements
