Help Camera shutter sound

capainron

Lurker
Huge apologies if this has been covered, but I used the search function for this forum and can't find any reference to camera related questions. Surely I can't be the first person to find this quirk of the Droid Pro annoying?

I can't find any way to silence the darned camera shutter sound. Silencing sounds in the setup won't do anything, and I've even tried several different widgets like "Mute," and "Ringer Toggle," but they won't do a thing. I also tried the special camera app "Camera 360," which supposedly allows the silencing of the camera shutter, but that option is grayed out when I downloaded it. Clearly Motorola doesn't want to make it easy to silence the shutter on the Droid Pro.

The only thing I haven't tried was one suggestion to go in to rm/system/media/audio/ui/camera.ogg and deleting the offending file. Anyone tried this or know any other tricks?

Apparently I am the only person who finds it annoying. ;) In any case, I finally discovered a fix that works "most" of the time. It's a free app called "silentsnap," and it seems to work more often than not. Sometimes the shutter sound will still inexplicably go off, but it's better than nothing.

Yeah, that option is grayed out on mine. I also note that when I download a third party camera app like Camera 360, the shutter sound setting is also grayed out. Further research has told me that this is a new "feature" on the Droid Pro due to privacy concerns, and that many manufacturers are following suit. I think it's idiocy personally. If someone is going to try to take sneaky photos of people, are they really going to use some brick sized Droid Pro?

Very strange! Well, I took a chance and enabled the shutter, took a pic, heard the sound, disabled the shutter, took another in blissful silence. (held my breath though). Not sure why I would be able to still control the shutter sound while others can't. Best wishes, though.
