Help Camera stopped working (Xperia z3 compact)

I think a forlorn request - but here goes. Can you think of what can be wrong with my camera?

I have a Sony xperia z3 compact in mint condition just over two years old ( just out of contract). It is running android 6.01

The main camera stopped working about a month ago. Am not sure if problem occurred following the Android update (to 6.01) or when I used my network's (EE - in UK) sent instructions to unlock? However the camera problem may be just a coincidence.

Sony forum posts suggested a number of 'tips' such as clearing cache and a full factory reset etc. . All of which I have tried but no result. The forum then suggested it must the camera sensor itself! Therefor in desperation I purchased a new sensor and followed youtube video on how to replace. e.g. heat up rear of phone and gently lift off to expose sensor which 'pushes' in. All went well with the procedure itself, the phone is working perfectly as before BUT camera still not working - so guess it is not a faulty camera sensor.

Any thoughts please?

Install another camera app from the play store and see if that works. You can install as many as you wish, try them out and see which works best

Thanks for prompt response Danny but that was one of the basic 'fixes' I first tried. I think the problem is more fundamental than that.
Camera apps will run (as normal) but the back facing (main camera) shows a blank screen using any. The front (selfie/video conference) camera works perfectly.
