Help Camera's flash timing is off

When trying to take a picture using the flash (either ON or AUTO, either setting does this), i do a half click, the flash shines for and instant, the focus goes in and out then waits. I press the button all the way down, the flash goes off, but the picture is as dark as if there was no flash. I am guessing there is an issue with the timing of the flash. Is there a way to adjust this? is there an update that i need?

I have found others with the same problem, but they seem to have older phone, 8+ months, mine is only a couple weeks, and did this the first day. I have a DroidX, someone else I was talking to is on an Incredible so it isnt model or even brand specific.

(If this was covered before point me to the thread, I searched for it and came up with ROM "Flashing" or other camera issues, I dont mind reading other threads, I just count find one)

only help ive found is to use the on screen button to tell it to take a picture and use a flashlight app to have the flash on already.

I've had the flash timing issue. Usually it's just the first pic that does it for some reason. Next time, if the first pic comes out black because the shutter was late, try taking the same picture again. Almost always works fine after the first misfire. Oh, and I do the half-press focus first method too.

Hrethgir - Yes, i was thinking it was a first pic thing too, i did a test under my desk and the first pic was bad then the following 4-5 pics were good, but then saturday I tried to take a pic of my girl trying on helmets, and I am not sure if it was because it was a person in a large room and the IR wasnt detecting the distance right or what, but out of 5 shots, none of them flashed right. I eventually used the no flash option and it turned out OK (way better than trying to use a malfunction flash option)

quickaudi - it was on "steady shot". I didnt even think to test it in a variety of scenes, I dont remember changing this. I will see if it makes a difference.

sitlet - doesnt matter how I do it, hold it down or half/full clicks, or even the icon on the screen, same results.

faber78 - What app? like some flashlight app?

yep. i've always had this annoying ass issue. it only really happens when u go to take a pic after phone has been idle for like 15-20min

I'm having the same issue...whenever I use my camera flash, the timing of the flash and the shutter release aren't in sync on the very first picture. The flash lights up, then it goes out, then the shutter release fires and the result is a dark picture. Second and subsequent flash pictures sync fine so the result is one picture that ends up being trashed. If I close the camera app and re-open it later, the same thing happens again, but only on the first picture. I've also tried it using other camera apps and the same issue exists. I first noticed this on Froyo and it still exists with GB. Testing and results feedback would be appreciated...Thanks in advance!

i actually just posted a similar post... this sux:mad:

I have had 5 different X's all with different defects. But one thing that was the same is they all had this flash problem. I also have a problem with the first video I take as well not saving correctly. I thought it was maybe my SD Card and I had Motorola send me a new one. Still having the same issues.

I have the same problem on all photos, not just the first one, especially when I am forcing a flash because there is a light background behind the subject of the photo, such as a face. Sounds like this is an inherent problem with the Droid? I'll look up the flashlight app.

Yep. If anyone were to ask me if I have a problem with my phone, it'd be this one single issue. It's that annoying (to me at least). I still can't believe they let this go in testing stages of the phone+OS. Seems unacceptable in my eyes. I know we all have just sucked it up & learned to live with it but still

Using the camera settings, try the following:

Picture Resolution: Widescreen
Video Resolution: High Definition (720p)
Face Detection: OFF
Exposure: 0

Unfortunately, I've always had my camera set like that :(

What's weird is I've tried it on 2 other Droid X's, and they show the same issue. I tried it on my 2 co-workers Droid X, and they didn't have that issue (running stock GB on all tested devices)

wtf?!?

I had the same problem AFTER setting things to what I thought should be standard. Tried these settings and the camera worked fine. My son had the same problem and set his to these settings and his camera works okay.

Guess it proves that each device just might be different in h/w and s/w builds as well as different apps.

(Don't like swearing, but agree: wtf?)
