Help Can’t establish a reliable data connection to the server

This is ridiculous!
My son lost his access to the Play Store on his tablet. I tried everything and kept getting the message
"Can’t establish a reliable connection to the server"

I read many forums and articles and tried several things. Many said to check the date and time on the table. reboot. log on to gmail through the web first. delete the cache in the google play store app. turn off 2-step verification in the google account. I tried everything. They all said, as a last resort, do a factory reset.

So I backed up the data and went for it. Factory reset.

Guess what?

After establishing a wifi connection, the first step after you do a factory reset is to connect to your google account....

And it STILL is giving me the same "can't establish a reliable connection to server" when I try to log in. I know it's not the password, I reset it and I am entering it correctly.

the only other suggestions I've read online involve rooting the device and I do not want to do that at this point.

WTF???

This is nuts! A brand new factory reset, and i can't do something as simple as logging into the google account.

This seems to be a common problem. There are tons of forum discussions on line about it. Why can't the biggest company in the world fix something as simple as allowing people to log onto their account, so they can BUY PRODUCTS from their company???

Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm about to lose it!

What model tablet are you using?

I take it the tab connects to WiFi ok and you can browse the web etc? It's just anything Google related?

Yes, everything else works fine. WIFI connection is good. Web surfing good. Just google apps, and that stupid thing where it connects to your google account. ARGH!

I have the same problem and have no idea how to root a mobile but that seems to be the only answer. This one was sold to me as the Android Phone Model N8000 but in "about phone" it is Model Number e1808_v75_jbl1_5640.
