Back toward the end of September, or whenever the OTA came out, I was using a Droid X, rooted Froyo, and was using Barnacles to tether with. Loved it! Worked flawlessly everytime, and thats rare in this day and age. For the whole month of September I was taking my laptop to work, tethering WiFi from my phone, and surfing the web....without. one. single. problem... :::::::::::: FAST FORWARDING :::::::::::: Now I have a brand new unrooted DX2, but this time around instead of rooting I was going to do the Verizon Mobile Hotspot subscription. Same workplace, same office, and same laptop. My experience so far is HORRIBLE and IRRITATING!! Its so bad its to the point that Im going to attempt to root my DX2. What I dont understand is why is there such a noticeable difference? I have basically the same phone. What is it about root that makes tethering better, faster, and more reliable? I mean in all honesty If I had 30 minutes to surf the web, I would only ACTUALLY get to surf about 8-10 minutes with this DX2. To where-as with my rooted DX I could surf ALL 30 minutes without 1 single bump in the road. As far as service and signal there the same. I have FULL serivce and 5 bars on my wireless icon on my laptop. Ive tried everything from putting my phone in different spots, hoping elevation or something would give me better 3G or something, but none of it seems to help. Anybody got any insight on this?
