Can download android auto but can't use it

I hope I'm not asking a crazy question and or one that's been answered. But why allow me download android auto if my firmware is too old to work with the latest version of the app? There's other apps that just says not compatible but not android auto app.

APKmirror.com and APKpure.com are both good sites for current and older versions of many apps.
