Can Gmail be removed?

Hi, I have all my email accounts, including Gmail, combined in the standard email client. My Gmail client is also receiving the same emails and I want to stop this from happening. Getting all my email in the one place is great and saves time. Can the Gmail standalone client be uninstalled or disabled in some way?

Android settings > Applications manager > All (tab) > Gmail > Disable
