Help can i connect a external hard drive to my phone?

I have my phone rooted and before I buy a micro sd cable I need to know if this is possible.I have a one terabyte external hard drive by Toshiba.

I connect to mine through my WiFi. I have my 1.5TB drive connected to my network router, and it works great. I access it through ES File Manager.
