Help Can I create a "pointer" or "link" to a file?

On my rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow), I have an app called Kiwix. Kiwix is an offline encyclopedia app. To make it work, you download a file called ZIM that is basically an encyclopedia in one file. I downloaded the Wikipedia no-image ZIM file. It's 17 GB big.

Kiwix will look only in /device/external/. This folder, however, is in FAT partition. I want Kiwix to be able to look outside of /device/external/, but there's no "Go up one level in the directory" option. So is there a way to create a pointer/link to the ZIM file that is on the EXT partition of the microSD card?

Any reason you put it on an ext partition? Just curious, as I can't see why unless you just happened to make a very large ext partition and don't have room on the fat one.

If you are partitioning cards I guess you are rooted, so if you have busybox an alternative would be to use a terminal emulator and the "ln" command (assuming you know a little linux). But a decent file manager is probably simpler (unless you are as old as I am and use terminal commands out of preference ;)).
