Can I delete the folder "Trashes"?

My SD card is getting close to full. Looking at the items taking the most space, I found one called "Trashes." Looking at the contents, I suspect it contains only deleted files, but before deleting them from there, I thought I'd best check.

I probably don't want to delete the folder itself, but if I deleted all of the files inside of it, could that also delete any active files I might be using?

Are you using a Mac or has the SD card been plugged into a Mac at sometime?

'Trashes' is the OS X equivalent of the Windows 'Recycled' folder for deleted items. Yes you can delete it quite safely.
