Help Can I disable auto screen locking?

Hi,

I have a non-rooted HTC Desire HD with Android 2.3.5 and HTC 3.0 which I only use as an Internet Tablet, ebook reader, audiobook reader, music player, GPS, etc. but without any SIM card inside.

I am using the "no-lock" app to prevent the screen from locking, but as soon as the screen fully dims out I have to press the main on/off button at the top right to get the screen to respond to my touch.

Is there a way to configure the phone so that any touch on the screen immediately re-activates it, meaning that it un-dims itself and responds to touches again?

In my car I listen to music and audiobook and the best way to stop the music/book when needed is to pull out the headset cable (which goes to my car's stereo). But to resume listening, I have to press on the top button and then press "play" again. And since my DHD is in an OtterBox Defender its rather a pain. I wish I could just keep the screen awake all the time (at least to my touch, even while dimmed) and only have it really lock when I press the top button to deliberately lock it.

Is that possible?

Not quite. I don't want the screen to remain on and drain my battery, I want to screen to dim itself AND remain sensitive to my touch. Your solution simply leave the screen on, fully lit. To repeat, I want the screen to dim itself to darkness in, say, 1 or 2 mins, but to be able to feel my touch when I want it to re-activate itself when I touch it.

Sorry if my first post was unclear...
 
You could always do what bedroom eyes has suggested, but also turn the screen brightness down low ?

That was the screen stays on as you've described but it's not on full brightness....
 
I have found a answer. However, it may not be what you are looking for.

In the rom, Blackout ICS Incredible 3,there is an option in the quick settings bar called screen on. This keeps the screen on, but dims it also.
 
Use "Keep Screen (now free)" by Axdroid and specify the apps you want to keep the screen on with (ie screen not dimmed or off) at all times. This way you can use the screen stop/start functions on those apps you mentioned. The KeepScreen app can be stopped and started at will.
