Android Question

Hi
I am not tech savvy. Hence this question.May be stupid. My android phone is Videocon a15 (android 2.3.6). My phone has wifi but not wifi hotspot.I downloaded pdanet. still no wifi hotspot. pda is telling me to do it either usb/bluetooth. My tablet has no bluetooth for which I need net . Hence I would like wifi hotspot.
what is the problem
1) My data package by the service provider needs to be changed
2) Will rooting my phone gives it the ability to wifi hotspot
shall I attempt rooting considering that I don't have that kinda knowledge
or is it impossible to do it on my phone
Thnx
BA

If your problem is that the phone doesn't have the option to set up a WiFi hotspot then that's a limitation of the phone software, not of your data package. Of course your data package may not include tethering, in which case it may stop working if you set one up or incur extra charges, but that's a different matter.

Have you tried FoxFi instead of PDANet? That's another app which says it can add this without rooting. Neither supports all devices though, and I suspect that may be your problem: your phone is not a common one, so it's unlikely that the developers have been able to test their software with it.

Rooting won't by itself give you WiFi hotspot support, but it may give you the ability to add that using another app (i.e. one which does require root).

I honestly know nothing about how to root that particular device. If you do want to learn about that though I found a thread over at XDA which might help: Videocon a15 Developments | Android | XDA Forums
