Help Can I hard reset?

Pugger

Newbie
Hey guys,

Quick question.... I recently dropped my s3 and now the screen won't turn on at all.

All the home buttons and charge led etc still work and the phone it's self still connects to kies fine and works ok (well as we'll as kies can work).

Now I'm claiming on insurance and will need to send the phone away so want to do a hard reset so my info is off the phone when I send it.

I have already backed up on kies on various computers so that's not a worry, but with no screen how can I do a hard reset on the phone?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Dan

Anyone know if this can be done?

Ohh and I forgot to say the phone is not rooted.

try this,
when your phone is off,
press home button+volume up key+power button at same time.
this will take you to system screen where you can find an option to factory reset your phone and wipe all data.

Problem is i have no screen display.. its just black all the time.

you can take the phone into your carriers store.. ask them to wipe the phone for you. maybe they have a computer software that can do that via the usb connection.

a real corporate store.. better if it is a repair center.
NOT a 3rd party sales site.

There are three ways of resting that i know all of them need the screen to be on. sorry i don't know how to do it, if your screen isn't working.

If android debugging bridge was on on your device, you can always use the command
Code:
adb shell recovery --wipe_data
to initiate a factory reset from your computer. Of course, this assumes you have adb setup on your computer, and the correct setting is enabled from the phone...

I wish i understood what it was you just said hahaha

i do wonder why samsung never put the option to do a full reset on kies...

Gutted.

Really dont want to send it to them fully loaded with my data

Not to minimize the importance of your stored information but I'd think they're far too busy to worry about what's on your phone, especially since the screen is inop.
