Help Can I swap the motherboard?

I have an Epic 4G that accidentally had the screen smashed. I bought an aftermarket screen and tried installing it myself, but no dice. I think I may have even cut one of the cables in the phone to the microphone trying to get it done.

So in the end, I filed an insurance claim and had a new phone delivered. The thing is, I want to keep everything the same- not just my contacts, but silly things like high scores in games, the layout of my apps, etc.

Here's the question: Can I swap the old motherboard (with the memory) from my old phone and put it in the new phone? This much is pretty simple to do since you don't have to take the entire phone apart like replacing the LCD. Or would this cause problems with the ESN of the phone and cause it to not work properly?

The ESN is hardwired in the mb and was undoubtedly deactivated by Assurion when you reported it destroyed/stolen.

More to the point. You messed up the phone in a failed surgery? Now you want to double down, do it again for some saved games? I wouldn't! Even if it were possible.

FWIW, Epic 4G's in good condition with clean ESN's sell on ebay for ~$150. Might come in handy if you do try your hand at surgery again. You might also want to think about how much you're paying per month for that insurance plus $100 deductible. My personal rule of thumb is to keep insurance for no more than the first year of the phones life (from device release, not purchase). Never after it's replacement has been released regardless of time.

Best of luck and enjoy the "new" phone.
