considering people purchase random generic 99 cent car and home chargers from ebay, that were built in china, and they end up having no problem, then I'm assuming your moms original Samsung made gravity 3 charger should be fine.
Confession, I have never used my Samsung charger. My old Blackberry charger was already installed in my in the shelf I use at night and it just didn't seem worth the effort to change it. I have had no issues and get great battery life.
