Can no longer Access Hotmail from Google Nexus email client.

I use the Google Nexus and have used the email client (default) to access a number of accounts including 3 hotmail accounts. They all worked fine before and now all say "cannot connect to the server". All passwords are correct and I can connect via other devices. I have changed no settings and they are still all in the setup, so the config has not changed. Any ideas?

Personally I use the Outlook.com app instead of the default email app for all my hotmail stuff.

Are you able to get on to other sites with the Nexus? It could be a wifi issue.

Thanks. Not a wifi issue - Wifi is rock solid. It is something between my Nexus/Google account and Hotmail. Everything else works fine and Hotmail works from everything else.

I have now tried another email client (K9?) and that won't work either for hotmail.

That's a pretty big clue as to what has changed. I don't use Hotmail for many reasons but being Microsoft it tends to play fast and loose with standards. It is likely that something has been changed recently that has borked communications with standard (read: "not Microsoft") email clients at their default (sensible) settings.

If you did an automatic account setup in your email app it's worth checking the current recommended Hotmail settings from the Hotmail site for "other" email clients, comparing with what is set in your mail app. Be especially careful checking things like encryption requirements which may have been changed.
