Can not disable default Android keyboard

atlcr

Lurker
Originally, all I wanted was the microphone icon to show up on the default Android keyboard. I went into settings and the voice input is enabled. I even tried switching it to show voice icon on symbols view, but that didn't work either.

So, I installed Google keyboard and switched the input method to it but when I go to type a text it is still showing the default keyboard.

In the settings for keyboard selection I noticed that the default keyboard is checked but greyed out so I can not uncheck it. Is there a way to disable the default keyboard so Google keyboard will show up?

More info: I installed Swype keyboard to see if that would work and it does, but is slow and only a trial. I would love to get google keyboard working or at least have the microphone icon show up.

Thanks in advance!

Im not sure about most of what youre asking but you should be able to disable the stock keyboard in Settings>Applications
In those settings you can usualy remove any defaults for the app too

Thanks!

I disabled the default keyboard as described and it is still showing up when I go to write a text even though Google keyboard is set as the keyboard and input method.

What is strange is that it is now not even listed in the keyboard list (as it is disabled), but it still defaults to the Android keyboard when I write a text.

To be clear, I don't mind using the default keyboard but just wish that I could still use the voice input mode.

By the way, I did reboot to rule that out.

You have to actually select what keyboard you want to use.

Most of the time this is in settings>language and input

I did select the Google keyboard there and also made sure to set it as the default input method.

Could this have something to do with Cyanogen? Maybe the Android keyboard is "hardwired" into the theme?

Here's a screenshot of what it looks like when I try to write a text.

This is with Android keyboard disabled and Google Keyboard selected.

Its 6 am and Im trying to resolve some issues with my new android phone. Im just learning the android system the last 2 months. My first phone 2 mos ago had andorid 4.1. WHAT AN AWESOME SYSTEM! I updated to a better phone, unfortuenately it came with android 4.5. What CRAP. Wheres my 3x4 portrait keybo gone?? What about the colors of pages that were easy on the eyes?? (I didnt even notice that until the color was gone). What about the simple drop down menus for the pages youre on?? (found some but not as many). Im considering going back to the old device with 4.1. or maybe Iphone??
If a moderator knows a way to remove this post, go ahead, cause Im off topic.
