Root Can rooting interfere with phone service?

I'm moving to Page Plus with 2 phones. One of them is a D2 and will be used only to receive voicemail. I was thinking about playing with rooting on this phone, since I don't need to use it on a day-to-day basis. Could rooting interfere with people's ability to call and leave a voicemail, or with my ability to retrieve those voicemails (from a landline if necessary)?

I know NOTHING about rooting --- yet!

TIA
Jenny

In general, rooting itself doesn't interfere with those capabilities. It isn't until you start messing with changing the rom or modem files(which I think isn't allowed on the D2 since the bootloader is locked) that things can start to go downhill.

Root is absolutely no problem with the D2 and is very easy to do. I am rooted with cm7 on Page Plus. I settled with cm7 because it is very stable and has very good battery usage.
