Root Can send MMS, cannot receive. No APN Settings.

It started with the first ROM, noticed after installing Classic Messenger that I could not send or receive MMS. Complained there are no APN settings. Looked in settings and sure enough, nothing there. Tried inputting virgin mobile APN settings manually into the app; same result.

Decided to try GoSMS and now can send MMS, but cannot receive. This is now on a completely different ROM (brittnearl's 2.8).

What do I need to do here?

apps that rely on the stock messaging app for apn settings will not work with my rom as it has been removed, hangouts has apn settings built in, along with a few others

Thanks! I cant stand hangouts tho. The woman of the house found a setting in gosms that allows the user to use their services; all good now!

Thanks for the ROM too!

if u use go smspro no need to do any manual settings

I tried it and it didn't work either. It would show the MMS message but would not let me download it. When I entered in these manual settings into textra boom all my missing MMS's showed up.

I've got no APN settings recurring.... But SMS (at least sending) works fine. Just the annoying alert. Comes and goes (sometimes away for days). I'll try one of the other options - thanks for the pointer!

Update: Textra works. Didn't need any extra settings mangled. Kinda sad, but I think I prefer the default messaging UI. It's not as pretty, but easier to see what's going on. I may experiment with others.... But no more APN settings message as soon as I disabled "Messaging"

Update2: Textra asked for the APN settings. I've now provided them. :)

Do the APN settings need to be entered into Hangouts, or do the default settings work for MMS?

From what I've been told its like gosms and works from the start. Only problem is, everyone you're communicating with has to have it.

To add to the thread: Google Messenger, Evolvesms, and the default messenger (obvs.) do not work regardless of manually entering the APN.

as for the gosms pro the other person dose not need to have it in gavt if u install it u can use the stock one in the ROM and then u can uninstall gowns pro I have done it

After trying GoSMS, I decided to try something I else. I ended up setting up ChompSMS. It has an option in the configuration to enter APN server settings. After doing so, MMS works fine. I like it better than Go.

Your screen shot shows a different MMSC that other posts I have seen.

MMSC: http://mmsc.vmobl.com:8080

vs. other posts with

MMSC: http://mmsc.vmobl.com:8088/mms?

Just to confirm, your MMS is working with these settings?

Edit: Chomp MMS worked for me, sending and receiving with the MMSC: http://mmsc.vmobl.com:8088/mms? setting.

Additionally, does anybody know if stock messaging can be frozen safely, and third party messaging will remain functional? I recall doing this along time ago on Éclair, I think. It improved messaging, and the occasional duplicate message.
