Help Can the USA Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 be used in Germany on pre-paid and/or WiFi?

My cousin is spending a year abroad in Germany and has a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 (which he says has a SIM card in it).

Can you phone tech guys explain why it has a SIM card?
And, if it's GSM, can it be used in Germany (with a local pre-paid plan)?
Will the WiFi work in Germany (do they use the same frequencies?)

Tbh i dont know much about US carriers but im pretty sure a verizon phone's hardware makes that impossible :thumbup:

The CDMA part would be impossible - but - what about the SIM card?
Isn't that GSM?

Nope, it's for Verizon's LTE network. It's not GSM compatible.
