3. last question. after being with apple for some years pdanet gave us the ability to be able to use pdanet wireless. i don't see that opition with android. is there a way to do that.. does pdanet have an app that allows you to go wirless without the hardwire connection
thanks in advance

1. No, you have to have the application on your computer.

2. Get a USB to Micro USB connector so you can connect your phone to the computer (you need it anyway). Download the required computer installer on your phone so it will be stored on your SD card in the "Download" folder. Connect your phone, navigate to the Download folder on the SD card and install the program.

3. I do not think you are able to have a wireless hotspot using pdanet. However, there are several alternatives; some of which require root. You should check your phone's section on the forums and see if there is a way to enable free wireless hotspot from your carrier.

For question 2 how am I able to transfer the pdanet application from my phone ( droid charge) to the computer if my friend doesn't have internet. When I go into my files then click on download I come across two apps . that I downloaded pdanet A 300 - 1. e x e. the second download is pda net A 300. e x e.I get a heading stating. open files no application can perform this action. it will not allow me to open these 2 applications or transfer them to a pc. how do I perform this action and is a internet connection required to do so.. remember I have the droid for charge. I forgot to add I do have a usb connector it came with the phone

What you are downloading is what you need to install on your friends computer. You downloaded the proper application; you just did it twice. Android isn't going to be able to open an .exe file since that is an installer package for Windows operating system.

Have you ever connected your phone to a computer and transferred files from it? All you have to do is find one of those pdanetA300.exe files by browsing your phone's SD card from the computer and double click it to start installing. It should be located in the "Download" folder on your SD card.

If you are still having trouble understanding how to do this, I will make you a quick tutorial.

From your phone:
1) Navigate to the pdanet website PdaNet -- USB Tether/Bluetooth DUN for Android

2) Click Download and you will be taken to this page:

3) Download whatever version is needed for your friends computer (I can't help you anymore on this part since I do not know what he is using; I would recommend downloading both the 32 and 64 bit installers just in case). Your browser might not let you choose where the download is stored, but it will be in the "download" folder.

4) Just showing that it is indeed in the download folder; don't worry about this step.

5) Next, connect your phone to the computer using the data cable. You should get a message in your notification bar about USB Debugging and one about USB connected. Press the latter.

6) You will be taken to a similar menu about enabling USB storage; enable it.

7) That is it from your phone! Now on the computer, go to "My Computer," "Computer," or whatever the hell Microsoft decided to name it in your operating system. You can click on the resize bar for these next images to make them larger and clearer. Ignore the program running on both sides. You should be present with two new removable storage devices. I believe the Droid Charge has 2GB of internal memory (you don't want it), so look for whichever one matches the size of your SD card.

8) You won't have exactly the same folders in this window since I have different applications, but there is only one you are searching for: "download."

9) Almost done. Now look for the PdaNetA300.exe file (I would recommend trying it first before the PdaNetA300x64.exe).

10) Double click it to start the install procedure.

11) That is it! Just follow the setup wizard, and you should have no problem getting pdanet to work on your friend's computer. Good luck.

Ok after countless hours of being at this I keep getting the heading that the driver for this device are not installed (code 28) there is no driver selected for the device information set or element. It tells me that I need to update the drivers but I can't do that without interner connection. my phonesis not being recongized. I can't do step 7. The only Thing that shows up is the c drive

Damn, it should be plug and play for USB mass storage devices. How old is your friend's computer?

Short of using a flash drive to transfer the program from one computer to another, I can't think of a way to get it working at the moment.
